meals for week of 2/25

Hello all, here's what's on my meal plan for the coming week:

Pesto lasagna the Italian dish
White chicken enchiladas let’s dish
Pork tacos elly says opa
Chicken a la king girl who ate everything
Chicken ragu sauce the Italian dish
Orange & balsamic chicken Martha Stewart

I may not make the Chicken a la King, I can't decide if it looks good or not lol. I somehow didn't get around to making the burgers from last week so I can make those in place of the chicken. Plus that would add some beef in this week.
As far as sides go, we always have a veggie. Brussels sprouts roasted or pan fried, steamed broccoli, corn and sometimes mashed potatoes. Mike isn't a big potato fan but sometimes they go really well with the main dish. I try to have a starch too but that doesn't always happen, either rice, mashed potatoes or pasta.

Sausage Orzo soup recipe

Here's the recipe! Hope you like it!!

1 lb italian sausage (if bought in links take out of casing and break into chunks)
1 onion, chopped
1 2lb-3oz can of italian tomatoes
2 13 3/4 cans chicken broth
1 tsp crushed basil
1/2 cup orzo
salt and pepper to taste

Cook sausage and onion together. Add all ingredients except orzo, bring to a boil. Stir in orzo, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Adjust seasonings to taste.

I use my dutch oven to make this, although any soup pot would work. I also buy the sausage that isn't in casings, in some cases it's cheaper and quicker than having to take the sausage out of the casing.

Ok, here we go!! Here is how I come up with my meal plans; I first look through the grocery ads and see if there is anything on sale for a super good price. I don't pay more than $1.99/lb for meats. When I see things like chicken breasts and boneless/skinless (b/s) thighs on sale I usually stock up. Things like that usually go on sale every 3 weeks or so.
Once I find (or don't find) what's on sale I hit up my bookmarked blogs to see if there are any new recipes from them. If nothing catches my eye I go to foodgawker and see what's on there that looks good. Foodgawker is a site that people can share their blogs on for recipes. Many of the blogs I follow have come from there.
Here's what my meal plan looks like for this week:

sausage soup (recipe follows)
crockpot london broil - tasty kitchen
fish (frozen already marinated from store), broccoli & rice
hamburger - pioneer woman cooks
roasted chicken w/ Brussels sprouts (recipe to come)
steak w/ onions - tasty kitchen (I may or may not make the potato recipe listed there)
roasted sausage cacciatore - tasty kitchen

Leftovers from the chicken will be used some way, and I'll use the bones to make chicken stock. I usually try to space out the meats, as to not have the same meat 2 nights in a row but sometimes it's inevitable. Please feel free to tweak any recipe to your liking.

Obviously I'm having trouble keeping my blog updated. I've decided that I'm going to start adding my weekly meal plans along with where I got the recipes from. I do it already and I know some people are interested in weekly meals so I thought I'd start sharing. Plus maybe this will remind me to update about the kids while I'm on here lol! I had a midwife appt on Thursday August 12. NST looked good, u/s looked good. I was dialted to 3 and had her sweep my membranes. After that I was pretty crampy and having contractions, but nothing consistent ant timeable. Since my mom was going to fly in to be here to stay with Jacob and we knew that it really wasn't going to be much longer we just decided for her to fly in that day. She arrived around 7:30 that evening.

Around 3:30am the morning of the 13th I woke up having some somewhat intense contractions. The progressed and I timed them at about 7-10 minutes apart. At 5am I got out of bed and called Felissa. Told her that they were pretty consistent and that I was having to breathe through them as they were painful. It's funny because I told her that I was pretty sure it was going to be today, but not anything within the next couple hours.

I tried to lie back down but that wasn't working so I just got up. After putting around the house they really started to pick up quickly and I was starting to need to be vocal through them. I called the midwife on duty and said that I was wanting to head into the hospital so that I wouldn't scare Jacob while I was working through the contractions. We talked about how I was feeling, she asked if I was feeling pressure and I said no. She said it sounded like I still had time, but I could head in if I wanted to and that I should call Felissa and have her come over.

I called Lissa and she said that she was going to head on over and for me to get into the shower to help with the contractions. By this time they were pretty intense!! I stayed in the shower until the hot water ran out. I remember thinking that God I hope Lissa got there soon so she could help me through these.

She did, and by this time I was dressed and sitting on my knees on the floor leaning over the couch. I was nauseas and just feeling yucky. Mom got Jacob dressed and headed out so he wouldn't be scared. Lissa timed my contractions and they were about 3 minutes apart so we left for the hospital.

thank God because just as we were turning onto the side street to get to the woman's section I had a big contraction and felt pressure. It was intense!! Mike dropped me off and Lissa met me in the hallway. In the elevator I had another one with pressure. I got to the counter and signed it; it was 7:17 am.

They got me into the room where right away I had another one. I was gripping the counter swaying and feeling such intense pressure. I said that I needed them to check me because I was feeling the urge to push. I stripped my pants off and lied down on my left side on the bed. Nurse checked me and I was at 9 already!!!

My midwife Bethany got there within just a minute or two, or at least felt that way for me! She checked me again and I was complete. She said that she was going to break my water so we could deliver within the next 1-2 contractions.

After just a couple contractions she started crowning. Looking back now it's hard to remember the pain, but I know it was there I remember her saying that I just needed to push through the pain. I was gripping the side of the bed. They wanted me to hold my leg but holding onto the bed felt much better. I got to feel her head crowning with my hand.

I remember at one point Bethany asked Mike if he had his camera and to get it out. He said he left it in the car and should he go get it. She said no that he would miss it if he went.

Not much longer and she was out!! I think with maybe 3 contractions. It felt wonderful to have her out! They put her on my chest and let me look to see boy or girl; once I saw I said "oh it's a girl!! I knew you were a girl the whole time!"

Such an intense feeling and now it was over!! I was tired but I felt good. Just a small tear along where I had my episiotomy with Jacob, such a small tear that she didn't even have to stitch it.

She nursed right away, for almost an hour!! She's doing great nursing. She does have a little mucous in her tummy so she's sleeping in the nursery right now so that they could watch her to make sure she didn't choke on it.
Her stats were: born at 7:39am; 8 lbs and 20" long.

Oh Holy Night

Photo Christmas cards are the in thing now and have been for the last couple years. It is always hard to decide which one is your favorite and fits your holiday picture. I have found mine for this year, my favorite card!!!
Isn't it gorgeous!! The kids would look so cute on there!!! I love how it's black and white, that'll draw more attention to the kids in their pajamas.

I love this one too . Love how it has a glittery look to it without the mess lol. Because a mom needs more to clean up right?!!

This one would match the kids' pajamas almost perfectly, it's so hard for me to choose which one to use!!

They have hundreds to choose from, which is good. There's one to fit everyones style. See for yourself here.

For a couple years now we've done photo calendars for the grandparents. They love receiving them and getting to see a new pic of their gorgeous grandkids every month. I love using Shutterfly for my calendars as they have different choices, I can get my dad a desk calendar for his work and mom a wall calendar. The biggest part of why I love them is that you can personalize specific days. For my birthday for example I can put a picture of myself. Pretty cool!!

Shutterfly even offers invitations. These look so much better than those crappy ones you have to fill out by hand or even those ones that you do yourself at home in your printer. Those ones always come out crooked, at least they do for me!

I am going to try to get better about updating more. Paige is here, born August 13th at 7:39am. It is an incredible story that I'll try to post today during nap time. Jacob loves his little sister so much and she adores him too.

Wow, it's almost been 1 year since my last post. Time just gets away from you. It's not like anyone reads this probably anyway.

So let's see what's gone on since then.....
Mike got a job working down in San Jose
Jacob and I lived in Pollock Pines by ourselves until November when we moved down here and lived with Mike's friend
We are now living in grandma's duplex

Oh yeah, and I'm 8 months pregnant!!

Everyone knows that by know though lol. Baby's gender is a surprise, although Mike knows. He said it was one of the exciting parts of the pregnancy to him, so I "let" him find out on 1 condition, that he not tell anyone!!! And he hasn't so I'm proud of him. He hasn't let it slip to me by saying she/he either which is really good!!

Genius I tell ya!

Jacob is a genius!! Well, to me at least. We were going to the library the other day after his dr appointment and I told him that we were going, and after I said library he said library! That's a pretty hard word, especially for a toddler. Then the other day I came across a pack of toddler books that we had gotten him. One of the books is farm animals. I went through it with him and named the animals, probably about 5 times. The next day he brought me the book, opened it, pointed to the goat and said "goat", then he did it with the goose! He can also point to the cow and the sheep and say those, but he's been saying cow for awhile now. He can also tell you what the cow, sheep, duck, dog and cat say!!

So, I knew it had been awhile, but I didn't know it had been that long, yikes! But there's not much to tell. Mike got a full time job! Thank God!! He works down in Santa Clara, so he's not home. It's going to be rough, but hopefully come December when our tenant renews her lease we'll be able to rent a house down there so we can live together as a family again lol.

I'm sure there are a few that I'm missing, but that's all that I can think of. Not too shabby!

Jacob has been able to spend some time with his friends and play, it's so nice to see him interacting with other kids. He really gets along well with kids his age. He and Asa took turns playing with this one car at a party we were at. It was great to watch them play! He broke 3 new teeth, so we are up to 10 now. He has all 4 front top, 4 bottom front (even though 1 isn't 100% through yet) and then he has his bottom 1st molars! He did really well with breaking all of them through, and even got a fever of 102.4. But he really did great!

In mommy news, I finally got glasses. I knew after being pregnant that my eyesight was effected and I would need glasses, but we just didn't have eye insurance and it wasn't that bad. But I finally was able to get in and sure enough, I'm near-sighted. I pretty much have to wear them all the time, except when I'm doing something close up. They aren't the hippest frames, but they were free and I didn't have to pay 1 cent out of pocket for the glasses so I'm not complaining! I also was able to get a jogging stroller on Craigslist for $35!! So Jacob and I have been walking everyday so far, he loves it! Which is great, cuz that gets me motivated to get out and do it.

Overall, everything is going well. Jacob is a wonderful happy kid and I couldn't ask for anymore! I love him so much and everyday that I get to spend with him is such a blessing. School is coming along ok; I'm not anywhere near where I would like to be, but I'm trying to learn the terms as I go instead of doing it later. Slowly but surely right? I just hope I can still make my goal of finishing by the end of the year! Here are some random pics of Jacob. And a video, it's so cute if I do say so myself!

I'm sure most of you have seen these on Facebook already, but I wanted to post a couple here. Jacob just got his hair cut on Monday. He looks so adorable with a faux hawk!!

His vocabulary just keeps growing. Yesterday we were talking with my mom on Skype, and he started saying "blah blah blah Grandma". Clear as day!!! It was so cool. My mom just about melted! He hasn't said it since though. Maybe next time he sees her.

He's growing wonderfully! Sleeping in his crib every night. I've figured out that if he ony takes 1 nap during the day that he sleeps better at night, so I've been trying to do that more and more. Working out pretty well.

I finally just got around to taking pics of the pictures. The scanner isn't hooked up so sorry for the quality. I'm pleased with them, except for the fact that you can see the strings from my shirt and the photographer didn't bother to say anything. Hopefully DH or a really nice great friend will photoshop them out for me!

We were down in the Bay Area this past week, and there were a couple very nice days. Danea and I were able to meet up and take the boys to the park. Here are a couple pics.

I went and bought Jacob his first pair of real shoes yesterday. I got him Stride Rite early walkers, for kids just learning how to walk. They have a sole, but it's not stiff like normal shoes, but it still has support. He's been walking on them today which is good, because he wouldn't yesterday! So I think he's starting to get used to them. I'll try to get some video tomorrow of him walking in his shoes.

It's been way past time to get Jacob to start sleeping in his crib. He used to after he got too big for the bassinett part of the play pen, but then we went to CA for a visit and man was it so much easier to have him in bed with me due to his nursing at night. So there is started, and we've been like that ever since.

Sunday was the first night he slept in his crib. I decided that I was going to do a modified version of CIO (cry it out), but I would stay in the room until he was asleep. So here's how the first night went:
nursed and rocked to sleep. continued to rock him until I knew he was out then transferred him to his crib. I turned on his Rainforest crib toy and told him is was ok, it was just time to go to sleep. Then I sat in the rocker. He cried for 15 minutes. The hardest part was when he was reaching out for me!!

Anyway, so after he cried for his 15 minutes, he sat down and watched his toy. Well, he fell asleep sitting up poor little guy!! I would try to lay him down when I knew he was out, but he would wake up and sit up again. So I just let him sleep sitting up.
About 10 Mike went in and was able to lay him down. I take Jacob into his room to start our process at about 7:45, I forgot to mention that part. Well, that first night, he slept through the night!!!! I was so shocked!! I didn't sleep very well but I was so happy! He didn't wake up until 7am!!

Night 2, much like night 1 except he only cried for like 1 minute!!!! And he laid himself down instead of falling asleep sitting up. He slept until 7am that night too!

Night 3, same as before; except he woke at 4:45, and I nursed him to sleep, put him in his crib, he cried, I stayed, he fell asleep, I went back to my room. Up for the day around 7.

Night 4, last night, much like night 3. So here we are on night 5, and someone did not want to go to sleep tonight!! But that's because he fought taking his morning nap so he took a long afternoon nap therefore not so tired at 7:45. But he's asleep now and all is well. Mom is tired herself tonight and is ready to go climb in her preheated bed.

Ever since Jacob took his first steps last week he's been doing a little more each day. Some days though, like the last couple, he hasn't taken very many. Well he's making up for it today!! He walked from the tv to the rocker earlier, which for him was probably at least 10 steps! He's really getting the hang of it today and wanting to walk and not crawl!! Yay Jacob!!

We had his 1 year appointment yesterday. He weighed 24 lbs 7 oz and was 30.5" long. Not bad, but I think they are off on his length.

For his birthday he received a gift card for Toys R Us. I found something that I knew he would like.

It's a fire engine ball pit! He loves balls so I knew he would like this. Although it seems right now all he really likes to do is throw the balls out. But hey, he's having fun!

He now knows 2 signs: milk and more. It's so cute to see him sign them! The next ones I am going to work on with him are please and hungry.

major update

Ok, so obviously I haven't update in a long time. It's because I haven't been home. I went down to the Bay Area for Jacob's party, and was planning on coming home just a couple days after that, once my grandma had her surgery.

The party went down without a hitch. We were fortunate to have lots of family and friends there to celebrate with us. Jacob had a great time. He got so many toys and clothes, he is such a fortunate boy! Here are some pics.

I made the cupcakes (devil's food and banana) and the monkey cake for Jacob's smash cake; which he did not end up smashing btw.

So my grandma had her surgery on the 3rd. She had to have a tumor removed that was on her spine hindering her walking and just her way of life. The surgery went great! We were worried that there would be some peralisis but the dr had a huge smile on his face when he came out to talk to us. They could already see the increased blood flow through her spine!
About a week after surgery she developed complications. She was suffering from septic shock, was had to be put on life support. It was so scary.
After many days in CCU she has now been transferred out of CCU and is now in the TCU, which is the transitional care unit. She should be transferred to the rehab center shortly so she can start recovering that way.

Our short trip ended up being 3 1/2 weeks! Yikes!! At least we were staying with family. Jacob loves playing with Cohen. They are so good together.

my due date lol. One year ago yesterday was the day my son was due. I remember feeling anxious, excited, scared, worried and in slight pain lol. Who was to know that 3 days later the best thing in my life, besides my husband, would happen.

With that being said, if I just skip Monday then he won't be 1 right?

What? I'm late? Oh well. Jacob and I came home on Tuesday from being down in the bay area for Christmas. It was great btw, pictures to come below. Jacob caught a cold while we were down for Christmas, then I ended up with it too of course. We are both feeling better though, thanks for asking.

Jeff, Danea and Asa came up to visit for the weekend. It was so nice! Thanks guys, you can come up any time! While Mike and Jeff went shooting yesterday Danea and I took the boys and went to downtown Placerville and just walked around. We both agreed though that next time we'll leave the boys with their fathers and just go ourselves, it'll be much easier.

Oh, and why is it that my son has to take his socks off every time you don't put shoes on him!!

Anyway, we had a wonderful Christmas. On Christmas day after we opened gifts at Grandma's house we drove up to Mike's parent's cabin in Arnold since his family was all their. It was nice to be able to see them and spend some of Christmas with them.
Jacob was so spoiled! I don't think there's one toy out there that he doesn't have.

After Christmas I went shopping of course, and found that a chair I had been looking at for Jacob was on sale. I had to buy it, and he loves it!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

We had the first snow of the season today, it was awesome! We got Jacob into his snowsuit and headed outside. He really seemed to enjoy it, other than the fact that the snowsuit's a little too big and he couldn't move, kinda like the kid in "The Christmas Story".

We also got the tree up, somewhat decorated and the train put together and it's chugging along around the base of the tree. Tomorrow I will work on finishing getting the ornaments on it, addressing Christmas cards and wrapping presents. Wish me luck lol!

I think I emailed everyone the rest of the pics, that one is one of my favs.

Scary Santa

We took Jacob to the mall on Saturday to get his picture taken with Santa. Man oh man he was freaky. I'm talking this is the scariest Santa I've ever seen. Don't believe me, see for yourself!!

I told the lady that I wasn't happy with this Santa, he didn't look authentic to me, so I wasn't going to buy a picture. She was totally understanding and told us there would be a different Santa later. So we walked the mall and just took our time. When we walked back by Santa the new one was there, he was much better!! Jacob still cried but this time the picture was good. I'll have to scan it as we didn't take any ourselves.

Bo was terrified of Santa! He didn't want anything to do with him. I'm sure we'll go through that in a couple years.

Jacob had a great 1st Thanksgiving. He ate turkey, mashed potatoes, squash and cranberries. I'm surprised he didn't eat more than he did.

Cuz someone is apparently practicing!

Jacob has been crawling for over a week now and omg is he fast! Especially when he sees the kitty. He loves chasing after the cat.

Luckily for her she spends most of her time in her bedroom. We got Jacob's new carseat today, thanks to Grandpa for an early Christmas present. I haven't installed it yet, but man does he look so cute in it!!

He had his first taste of lemon the other night, and didn't even make a sour face! He totally loved it and kept trying to eat more and more.

It's been a bit, but we are in California and doing well. We've been home for just a couple hours after a long weekend, and honestly I'm exhausted and freezing so I'm going to bundle up and sit on the couch with my kiddo.

9 month appointment

at 8 1/2 months.

We had Jacob's 9 month appointment scheduled for the 29th of this month, but hey, we'll be in CA already! When I talked with them a couple weeks ago there was an appointment open for the 9th, so I took it.

Jacob is doing really well! He weighed in at 21 lbs 14 ounces and was 28.5 inches long. He got the first round of the flu vaccine. The dr said he looks really good, everything sounds good and overall he's doing well.

He did ask if he was pulling himself up yet, which he's not. He's close though, maybe another month or so.

I did ask him about Jacob standing on his tip toes when he's standing, and he asked if we have an excersaucer or a jumperoo. Yup, we have a jumperoo. He said he's seen that alot, because they are jumping on their tiptoes when they are in the thing. He said it's not a big deal. Sometime's he's seen it cause babies to walk later or walk on their tip toes. But he said he's got great dexterity in his ankles and feet so he should be fine.
We haven't used the jumperoo much lately, but we won't be using it anymore now!

Overall things are going well, just getting ready to fly to CA on Sunday!! I can't believe the time is almost here already!

We had a last lunch with Sara today. We won't get to meet Sawyer before we go but that's ok. Tomorrow we have an appointment to take his 9 month pictures, then we have lunch with Lauren.

I also have to find some 12 month onesies, as I have managed to buy none and the 9 month ones are getting really hard to snap!

In other news, he's getting really close to crawling. I give it maybe another couple weeks. He's not up on all 4's and rocking yet, but he goes from sitting to on 4's then back to sitting.

I talked with my old District Manager today. I miss that job so much! I'm talking about the pottery painting store. I loved it so much. The only thing I didn't love was the teenagers who really didn't care about their quality of work, or serving the customer.

Anyway, talking with her just brought up in my mind the choice I made to leave. There were circumstances that now I look back on and think I could have handled differently.

My co manager had just left, along with most of the staff. We were heading into the bussiest part of the year, with a brand new staff who didn't know their head from their ass and really didn't care to learn. I was also supposed to train the new manager they hired to take my place ( I honestly think they were hoping to transfer me to the new store they opened) and training the assistant manager, along with 6 or so new employees.
Things weren't getting done correctly, making more work for me. I would go in to work at 8:30am, if not earlier, and stay until 6 or so, come home make and eat dinner, and more often than not end up going back in!
Anyway, the end of my working there. I sort of had a breakdown. I was under alot of stress, feeling very overworked and underappreciated, and had just found out I was preggo and was worried about having another miscarriage. So I talked with the owner and decided I needed to step out and not work anymore.

It's a double edged sword you know. What would have happened if I had stayed? We wouldn't be in the financial dilema we are in right now. But I think it's for the best. I was able to fully enjoy my pregnancy and not worry about the chemicals harming him.
Also I would have had to go back to work 6 weeks after having Jacob. I couldn't imagine doing that! I cherish everyday I get to spend with him. Sometimes it bugs me because I don't get any alone time, but for the whole it's the best thing ever. When he looks at me and smiles just seeing my face, it's the happiest part of my day!
Talking with her today she said that if I were staying in AZ I would be more than welcome to come back and work for them. Just got me thinking about things you know.
That was probably the happiest I have ever been at a job. I got to wear what I wanted to, I was an awesome manager, I enjoyed most of my employees and working with them, I loved seeing what people painted and I loved helping do handprints and such for kids.
Maybe we will end up opening our own store eventually. I'm sure it's different when you are the owner though. Who knows, time will tell.

I love getting packages, who doesn't!! Last week my friend Catherine sent me an email saying she was going to be sending me something. I went and got the mail last night and it was here!
She read on here about my trying to get this one outfit for Jacob but couldn't get it due to the store not being a cold weather store. Catherine lives in Boston and was able to get it!!! She bought the outfit and a 2pack of long sleeved onesies for Jacob!!!

She also knitted a really cute blue beanie for him. I'll take a pic tomorrow of him wearing it. Thank you so much Catherine for thinking of Jacob and I. It means alot to me.

Every day I am amazed by my son.
Just looking at him, watching him do things and learn how to do things is amazing to me. How much I love him is amazing.
Lately he has started to play with his hands. He sits and turns his hand over from front to back, and I just sit and watch.
I love watching him roll over, or flail about on his tummy. I love watching him play with his toys. I love just sitting back and looking at this amazing little person.
I'm sure every mother says this, but he is the cutest baby ever! I love him more than I could ever put into words.

Today Jacob and I had lunch with Sara! It was so nice to have lunch with an adult! LOL. While lunching I gave Jacob his sippy cup. These things are great! You can tip them upside down and they don't leak. That is unless your son chews on them. He had water all over the tray for the highchair!! I grabbed (nicely lol) the cup from him and looked at the spout, and noticed what was wrong. The spout has 3 slits in it making two pieces. The pieces are connected on both side. Well my son chewed one side off of each piece, opposite sides! And the sides that were left connected weren't too far from coming off either.
He hasn't had these cups for that long! They sell replacement spouts but like I said he hasn't had them long, one for only 1 month! I'm going to email the company and let them know what happened.
After lunch today I went over to Carter's to get some winter clothes for Jacob since we'll be living in the cold! There was one outfit that I had specifically seen at the Carter's in CA and also at Babies R Us here. I didn't see it anywhere in the store so I asked about it. The lady said she was pretty sure she knew what outfit I was talking about and pulled out their book. We found it, and she told me that it's only available at cold weather stores!! Of course living in Phoenix this isn't a cold weather store! I'm so bummed! It was a 3 piece outfit, a fleece vest and pants, and a long sleeved onesie. There were 3 different colors. I was so looking forward to buying him it. So I guess I'll just have to look when I get out to CA. They had it at BRU the other day, but they only had 1 and it was a 24 month not a 12 month.
Jacob is 7 1/2 months old now! I am amazed by him more and more every day. No crawling yet but he is getting more active. He can reach pretty far to get some toys and sit himself back up without falling over. When he does fall over he falls forward so then he ends up on his tummy. From that position he can move himself all around in circles, and usually ends up flipping himself over.
I've been keeping busy packing and decluttering. My mom has been coming over for a couple hours every day to play with Jacob that way I can get packing done. There is still so much to do! We are planning on having a garage sale next Friday and Saturday. Hope we sell lots!!

Ugh, things just get so hectic and I get wrapped up I completely forget I have a blog LOL!!
So let's see, Jacob and I had a wonderful trip to CA. We were there for 1 1/2 weeks. It was so nice!!
We got the money we need to move!!! So we are now working on getting things packed and organized as we set a moving date of October 10. I just hope we can stick to it. Yesterday I contacted a couple property management companies so they can manage renting our house out for us. It's gonna cost some money up front that we don't have right now but we are working on coming up with it.

Ugh I'm sitting here wondering what to call this post. Many of you know I belong to an online mommy website. I belong to a playroom where all the mom's have babies born in Jan 08. Yesterday there was a topic started about spanking, and whether or not we would spank our children.

I replied with I wasn't 100% sure, but am leaning more towards no. Not 100% no, there are probably going to be times where he needs a pat on the butt, but there will be other things done first before a spanking.

In the topic 2 ladies stated things that make me angry and quite sad. One said that she "spanked" her 7 month old because she was trying to clean her after feeding and the baby wouldn't cooperate, she was screaming and yelling and stiffening up. So she smacked her on the leg.
The second lady told us that her husband was feeding their son and when he got food in his mouth he blew raspberries. Her husband "popped" the boy in his mouth.
I am just in awe. These are helpless little babies who are doing what babies do! Babies don't like to have their faces cleaned, they squirm and move and wiggle. Babies blow raspberries, it's part of their motor skills!!!

Both parents said that their babies learned though because they haven't done this behaivor again. Like that justifies what was done.
You may not agree with my feelings on this, and that's ok. These are my feelings and thoughts.

On to happier thoughts, Jacob had bananas this morning! He really wasn't too sure about them. I'm gonna try again tomorrow. I think maybe it wasn't ripe enough yet, so I'll keep trying!

Jacob had his 6 month checkup today. Overall he is doing very good, the doctor is thrilled with his weight gain. He weighs 18 lbs 15 oz and is 27" long. He got 3 shots at the end of the appt and screamed so loudly, tears and everything poor guy. He still has the heart murmur but the dr is not concerned because he's gaining weight so well. He said it's ok to start doing 3 meals a day, but I'm gonna wait until we have gone through all the foods testing for allergies.
The dr was very surprised to see him sitting up by himself and said that was more of a 7 month old thing. Since he's sitting by himself he's not concerned with the fact that he doesn't roll over. He said he probably just doesn't want to, which is what I figured too.
We've gotta take some pics tonight so I will post some later. We're gonna try a new veggie tonight. I haven't decided yet wether it's gonna be carrots, peas or green beans.
On the food front I made some more for him last night. I did plums and apples. So that makes: plums, apples, peaches, nectarines, sweet potatoes and squash that I've made him so far.

What freakin' day is this??? Saturday July 26th. That means my little man is 6 months old!!! 6 MONTHS!!!! I just want to hug him and kiss him and tell him to stop growing!! What's really funny is that the day he was born was a Saturday too, kinda weird huh!

On the house front we've decided that we are just gonna sell. It'll be easier that way than trying to manage renters while we are living out of state. Hopefully we can get it on the market very soon because I don't wanna be here for Christmas!!

Swimming, high chairs and pouty lips

So, it's been really really hot here, triple digits. I've been wanting to take Jacob swimming for a couple weeks now but the water hasn't been warm enough. Well, after the past week of high temps it was finally warm enough! So Saturday Jacob and I went over to my mom's boyfriends house. I blew up the inflatable crab that my MIL bought, slathered Jacob in sunscreen, put on his hat and out we went. This was after spending an hour at Target trying to find a bathing suit that fit my newly shaped body.
Anyway, he had a blast!!! Absolutely loved it!!! He was leaning a little too forward in his crab, but that's because he can't sit up by himself yet. He was kicking his legs like crazy!!

Before we went swimming Sunday I ran out and got those arm floaties thingys. I blew half on one side up and stuck it in front of him so he wouldn't be leaning too far forward.

We've been using the bumbo seat to feed Jacob in. Well about 1/2 way through feeding he gets tired and starts slumping forward, making it hard to feed him. So I broke out the high chair. We registered for and got the Fisher Price Space Saver High Chair. I love it!!! It straps perfectly to our tall chairs and I can sit down comfortably and feed him.

Jacob has this face he makes only when Daddy is holding him. It's the pouty lip!! I've been trying to get a picture of it since he started doing it, but man is it hard to get. I finally got some though!! It's so cute, lol!

Jacob's been doing well. His new favorite thing is his Rainforest Jumperoo. He had so much fun in it the other day that he decided to nap in it too!!

Let's see, I can't really think of anything else going on. Mom's boyfriend gave us his video camera that his ex-wife had bought 4 years ago. We've got it charged and ready to go. I'm going to try to get a video of his backward inchworm crawl thing. It's hilarious!!

We just got home from CA yesterday. It was a great trip. Being back here sucks, lol. I miss all my family and friends out there. Mike and I are going to sit down and talk about how we are going to get out there. We need to figure out what we are going to do with the house as our friends mom didn't qualify for enough to buy it.

Wow, my first Mother's Day. What a great day!! We woke up early and went and had breakfast before the crowds got there. Then we came back home and hung out. We both ended up doing alot of cleaning and organizing while Jacob took a 4 hour nap in his swing.
Mom came over and I made dinner. Champagne risotto, yummy!! We had lemon meringue pie for dessert. It was really good. Good job on the pie Safeway!!

Jacob has a cold

My poor baby has a cold. He's got a stuffy nose and a horrible cough. Yesterday was worse than today. He was laying on his playmat and started coughing so hard he vomitied everywhere, and I mean everywhere!! So at 6:45 am he was getting a bath.
I took him to the dr and they said there's not much to do since he's so young, just use a saline drop in his nose and a bulb sucker to pull the mucous out.
On a good note he weighs 14 lbs 3 oz!!! I'm having to pack up some of his 3 month onesies because his torso is too long.

Yup, I have pink eye. Again. I just had it 3 weeks ago and apparently it didn't go away fully and it came back plus now I have like 8 sty's on the same eye that is infected with pink eye. It's really bad too. I went to the dr today and they gave me 2 different eye drops.
Anyway, I wanted to post some newish pictures of Jacob.I just put together his Rainforest Jumperoo and although he's still too small we just put a box under his feet. He's not jumping yet but he does move his feet around. He's getting so big! I can't wait to go out to California in May so he can meet everyone.

So it's Sunday. Jacob is crashed out in his swing, yet here I sit on the darn computer. I should be cleaning the house. Mike is out getting things to finish working on the shower in the master bath. We should be able to finish it up soon, thank God. It's been almost a year!
I just set up Jacob's Rainforest Jumperoo today. We'll have to put a box under his feet but I can't wait to see how he likes it.
Oh, he rolled over yesterday!!! I had him on his tummy time mat and was on the phone with my mom. I had noticed for the past week or so that he was getting close to rolling. And yesterday all of a sudden he did! I was so excited!! I put him back on his tummy where he just cried. Little stinker wouldn't do it again so I could get video. I'll get it though and I'll make sure I post it when I do.

Where did the time go? I can't believe he's 2 months old already. We had his checkup this morning, and he weighs 12 lbs 2 oz, 23 3/4 in. He is in the 50-75th percentile. He got 3 shots, poor guy. :( He was not happy and cried and screamed. When we got home I gave him some tylenol, he ate a little bit and is sleeping now. We'll go back in 2 months for another set of shots. As far as the reflux we (mike and I) decided to not get a prescription again right now, we are going to see how he does being off of it. If we need to put him back on it he said that he would call it in. Overall a good appointment.

My little boy is 7 weeks old today. He's growing so fast!! We have his 2 month checkup next week. I always like to see how much he weighs and how long he is. It will be our first appointment with the new doctor which I'm happy about. Hopefully this office will be much better than the original. That's my fault for not checking it out before he got here. I came up with an idea for some Easter pics and we tried to take them on Sunday. Jacob wasn't too keen on my idea though. I'll write a new post later this week and include pics from the photo shoot. Blackmail pics will be involved for his future girlfriends. Here's a newish pic, cuz I love sharing! This is him with his cousin Cohen, who is 2 1/2 weeks younger but already weighs 12 lbs 6 oz!!

One Month

My baby's one month old today! Where has the time gone? Before I know it he's going to be a year old. I don't even want to think about that! So we had his one month check up this morning. He weighs in at 10 lbs 3 oz! He's a very good eater. We are going to see a cardiologist in about a month for his heart murmur. There is a flap in the heart that is supposed to close during birth, but his hasn't closed. They want to do an echo-cardiogram just to make sure it's tiny. I'm not too concerned as it's very common, but it's still in the back of my mind.
Jacob is a very happy baby. The only time he cries is when he's hungry and I can't get my boob out fast enough! I'm glad that we got his tongue taken care of. Breastfeeding has been much easier for both of us now that he is able to stick his tongue out past his gums.

The past 2 weeks

Wow, time has flown! My little boy is getting so big already. We've had some issues breastfeeding that are caused by him being tongue tied, so we have an appointment this Thursday with an oral surgeon. The thing is that the string below his tongue has a hole in it, and the front piece is what is causing him not to be able to stick his tongue out enough, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to get it to break just by massaging it, but we still have the appointment scheduled just in case. His tongue issue has caused me to have mastitis, which is an infection in my breast caused by clogged milk ducts. It's not fun, in fact very painful at the beginning of the feeding. I'm on antibiotics though so hopefully it will feel better soon.
I had a lactation consultant come out 2 this week to help me with our feeding issues. On Tuesday he weighed 8 lbs 12 ounces, and Thursday when she came back he weighed 9 lbs 1 ounce!!!

Jacob has arrived!!

So I think everyone knows that he is here. My water started leaking Saturday around 12 and he was born 10:48 that night. He is doing wonderfully! He weighed 8 lbs 8 ounces at birth, and when he was weighed this morning he was 8 lbs 2 ounces, so not a bad weight loss at all. He's breastfeeding well, I just hope it continues once my milk comes in. I'm a bit nervous now that we are home but I now that everything will be just fine.

I'm becoming really impatient, which I feel bad about because I know he's still in there for a reason. I just want to meet my little guy. Alright, here is a new belly picture. The one in the pj's is from 34 weeks, then tonight's at 38 weeks. He's dropped for sure! I have a dr's appointment Friday so hopefully I will be more dialated then I was last week. I plan on finishing the letters for his name tomorrow and if I do then I will post pics of the nursery. If not tomorrow then within the next couple days, unless I go into labor. Ha ha!!

He's not here yet. Yesterday was my last day of the meds and the last day of bedrest. So if I go into labor then we'll do nothing to stop it which is fine. I'm still a fingertip dialated and 70% effaced like I was last week. Hopefully I'll start having some contractions and get things moving along here. I know he's dropped, I swear he's lower than he was last week which I didn't think could happen but man is he low!! At least he feels that way! I'll have Mike take a picture later so I can post a comparison.
The nursery is finished, all his clothes are washed, we have everything we need for him and the carseat is installed. So now we just need him to get here!! Anytime Jacob!!! Mommy and Daddy are anxious to meet you!!
Also this week I talked with my mom and my dad and told them their boyfriend and girlfriend are not to be at the hospital. It's not respectful to my dad for my mom's boyfriend to be there and vise versa. Mom and Dad won't be in the room while I'm delivering but can be in while I'm in labor. I only want Mike there as this will be a good bonding experience for him and I. No problem with people that have all their family in the room while their baby is born, but not my thing!!

BEDREST. Yup, that's right, I've been put on bedrest. Monday night I was feeling a little off, had some back pain and some cramping. So finally decided hey, let's go just get checked just in case. So sure enough I'm having contractions. Cervix was closed which is good, and the contractions weren't regular which is another good sign. Around 12:30 am or so the moved me over from labor and delivery triage to a labor and delivery room. The gave me 3 shots of terbutaline (not at the same time!) while I was in triage then gave me another once in the room. Terbutaline is supposed to stop the contractions. Well, 4 shots later it wasn't working still. So they decideed to give me an IV of magnesium. It supposedly has really bad side effects but luckily I didn't get the joy of experiencing any. So, I barely slept that night, I was so uncomfortable in their bed, and I coiuldn't lay on either side becuase they had me hooked up to the monitors for Jacob's heartrate and one for my contractions. Also Mike stayed and he was snoring like crazy!!
So anyway, they gave me an oral dose of terbuatline around 1pm and then I was discharged around 2:30pm. I was able to come home finally! Yeah, my own bed!
Well, we ended up going back around 6:30 or so last night because I was having chest constraints. It hurt so bad I wanted to cry. The contractions didn't even hurt as bad as this. So, they checked my stats and everything was ok, so they sent me home. We were only there for about 45 mins to and hour which isn't bad. I just have to take the terbutaline every 6 hours instead of every 4. Oh yeah, I left that part out. I will be on oral terbutaline every 6 hours for the next 2 weeks!!!
I had a regular dr appointment scheduled today and he said he would really like me to make it to 37 weeks but he would take 36. So, 36 weeks is next week!!! Crazy huh! But more than likely we're looking at 37 weeks which will be Jan 2nd. At that point I won't have to take the terbutaline anymore and we'll let nature take it's course.

Yup, it's just around the corner. How does it seem to sneak up on you? Then it's over before you know it. Oh well. We're pretty broke this year so we have a small budget for family and that's it. But I do need to think of what I want so I can tell Mike. I was trying to think of that the other day. It's funny because I realized that I really don't buy anything for myself. I buy things for the house. Candles, decorations, etc, but nothing really for me. I feel guilty actually when I do end up buying something for myself. I would tell him to get me a gift card but to where. Clothes? No cuz I don't know when I'll be able to wear regular clothes. Cd's? No cuz I'm not going to be driving for awhile and I don't listen to cd's in the house. Oh well, I'll come up with something. Wish me luck!

CA shower and some pictures

I just got home Tuesday night from California. Uh I can't wait till we move back. It was such a nice trip and the shower went great. Everyone came which was great because I haven't seen anyone in a long time. Everyone was very generous in their gifts to us. While I was there I asked Danea to take some maternity pictures of me and of course she was up to it. So here are a couple of the ones she took.

Wow! 3D Ultrasounds are awesome. He has the cutest little face! He had his hands up by his face for most of the shots, but we were still able to get some really good ones. It makes it all so much more real and I can't wait for him to get here now. And he's defenitaley a boy, we have the 3D picture to prove it, lol! Here are some of the best ones.

Yay!!! 2 years ago we were married!! Time flies. It's crazy. On one hand it seems so long ago, and on the other it seems like it was yesterday. Mike bought me flowers, some roses. They'll be dead by tomorrow. Flowers in AZ don't last long at all. Stupid desert. We went out for breakfast and might go out for dinner but I'm not sure. Yay for anniversaries. Love you babe!!! Muah!

This is a rant. Stop reading if you want, you've been warned.
This is supposed to be one of the happiest times of my life, instead I can't even enjoy my pregnancy I feel. No one wants to hire someone who is preggo. Why would they? There's no point. Just to have them work for a couple months then be gone. I'm just tired of alot. I just want to bring my child into this world having his parents be stable. How can I be a good mom when I'm worrying about how I'm going to pay my bills? I'm worried about if he can't breastfeed how am I going to be able to buy him food? I know this is somewhat exagerated but these are some of the things that have gone through my mind.

So, the other day I was having some cramping and such so I called my dr who of course was not there cuz it was after hours. A nurse called me back and her first question was "how much have you had to drink?" I replied with 3 bottles of water. She almost laughed (!) and said "oh honey you are not drinking nearly enough. You should be drinking a gallon of water a day" So, here I am today, 1/2 way there and let me just say I hate water!!! I don't really drink alot period though. I'll have part of a can of soda and maybe some water on a regular basis. Maybe I should come up with an IV that you can do at home by yourself so I don't have to drink it, it'll just end up in my body. You think?

I've mainly started this to record all my pregnancy musings and to keep family and friends updated on what is going on in our lives.

Yesterday marks 20 weeks of pregnancy!! We are half-way there. Hard to believe. I love feeling him move, it's so precious. Mike has yet to feel him but I'm sure that he will soon.

That's all I can think of for now. I'll update when I have something else to say!!
